Besides industrial contracts, HPS also develops in-house and Customer-oriented R&D efforts, such as:

DELAT - Delamination Assessment Tool (ESA) The goal of this study is to create a damage tolerance demonstration and verification methodology, to complement the already existing standards which are used by the European Space Agency.

RFMLI - Thermal Blanket with Low RF-Reflectivity (ESA) One of the problems of traditional MLI is the reflection of radio (particularly microwave) frequencies in its metallized surface. Such reflection equates to the one of a perfect electric conductor, and poses a significant problem to the communication branch of the mission. In this study HPS is attempting to develop a special kind of MLI which is able to manage such reflections, and minimize them to an insignificant level.

HiT - High Temperature Thermal Insulation (QREN SI I&DT funded)
1. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
The goal of this study is to develop a new breed of high temperature thermal insulations for spacecraft. This insulations are meant to endure temperatures between 400 and 1000 ºC, while being affordable and as simple to install as traditional insulations. Such advance will grant HPS a competitive advantage in its core thermal insulation market.

This project (nº 22896) is funded under QREN SI I&DT measure (Regulamento de Incentivos à Investigação e Desenvolvimento Tecnológico).

Total investment - 194,392.19 Euros
Incentives approved - 107,247.89 Euros

This project has a duration of 24 months, starting 01.01.2012 and ended on 31.12.2013.
